The Beauty Of Optimism

The beauty of optimism

Beauty and optimism are two different concepts, although they may seem similar to you. Optimism does not always lead to clear happiness: what it does is flood the body and mind of the person who practices it with inner peace. This subsequently brings a serene beauty that illuminates the face and soul. There are many occasions in life that can make us happy, such as the birth of a child, marriage, falling in love or graduation; however, this does not mean that the cheerful person is optimistic: they are just enjoying that moment of happiness that has happened to them (or that they have deserved).

The difference is always noticeable when life does not smile at us; when a tragedy, a tragedy or bad news happens: this is the moment in which the personality of an optimist stands out and that of the pessimist is recognized, who probably smiled when things were going well. Faced with this situation, the optimist will be saddened, because he is not a robot, but he will not despair, because he will be able to overcome discouragement or abandonment (two characteristics associated with ugliness, both external and internal).

It can also be said that there are two types of people: those who trust themselves and others and those who are distrustful of everyone, they do not even trust their abilities and attitudes. People of the first type are pleasant, funny, serene, nice, we like to talk to them and have a nice personality, which goes far beyond their physical appearance. People of the second category are quite the opposite: they are not stimulating for a conversation, they instill in us a sense of rejection for no obvious reason, they seem false to us, etc.

Is being optimistic the same as being naive?

Many confuse these two concepts based on the fact that those who are too optimistic do not see things as they really are. If a person is optimistic due to the fact that they are rich, charming, with a good job and / or a good education, then they are probably living in a constructed reality. As we said before, if something bad happened in their perfect existence, and they would stop being optimistic they would start feeling downcast, mistreated, alone, etc.

But returning to the similarity between optimism and naivety, it must be said that these two aspects may be related, or may not be. Perhaps, if you look at someone who is particularly positive about their future or professional career, you will think that they are very naïve, that they do not see things with the right perspective or that they live with their head in the clouds. His confidence is so great that it makes even the most pessimistic in this world waver; this does not mean that such a person is naive or innocent, it is just that he sees things with other eyes.

For example, surely that excessive optimist who believes that the doctor will always tell him that he finds him healthy and that he will cure him of all existing diseases, no matter how serious they are, is naïve. In this case, it would be realistic to think that the doctor is excellent and will offer him the best possible treatment, but that recovery will depend on various factors.

Optimism versus Pessimism

An optimistic person knows how to hope, think and desire and acts accordingly so that his dreams can come true ; he always imagines the best, but at the same time he knows how to accept negative or unexpected facts. He has a greater capacity to react during the difficulties of life, because he knows how to see the positive side where others see only desolation, fear, sadness and scarcity of opportunities.

Being optimistic when life is booming is too easy, because this lucky moment can end and thus erase the feeling of positivity. An Optimist with a capital “o” is one who, even after failing repeatedly, gets up and looks ahead, head held high and with a new baggage of experience. He is able to relate what happens to him with what could happen in the future.

Pessimism, on the other hand, characterizes many people for two main factors: firstly, because they find it difficult to see the reality of situations or they cannot solve difficulties as they would like; secondly, because they have an internal problem and therefore always analyze themselves with a negative, critical, complaining and contradictory meaning.

Being able to see reality in a situation is quite complex and not everyone can. There is always the influence of that subjective factor that does not allow us to correctly analyze the things that happen: the personal perspective can never be objective and it is right that it is not. However, the optimist will be able to see the glass as half full and the pessimist will see it as half empty. Nothing more and nothing less.

The beauty of the optimist shines on his face, on his body and on the way he talks to others; radiates a wonderful positivity that makes everyone feel good when they are next to that person. It is not a question of aesthetics, but of attitude. Practice optimism even in the worst moments of your life and you will get all kinds of benefits, both internal and external.
